Position Summary
The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the cost accounting function, ensuring accurate costing, inventory valuation, and financial analysis to support strategic decision‑making. This role leads cost accounting processes, develops cost models, manages standard costing, drives process improvements, and partners closely with operations, finance, and leadership teams to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting & Financial Management
- Oversee all cost accounting activities, including standard costing, bill of materials (BOM) accuracy, cost roll‑ups, overhead allocation, and variance analysis.
- Maintain and continuously improve cost accounting systems, processes, and internal controls.
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Manage month‑end close for cost accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare detailed cost, margin, and profitability analyses for products, customers, and production lines.
- Provide insight into cost trends, price changes, and margin impacts.
- Analyze manufacturing variances (PPV, labor, overhead, scrap, absorption) and present findings to leadership.
- Develop dashboards and financial models to support forecasting and budgeting.
Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, procurement, and engineering to ensure cost accuracy and enhance financial performance.
- Partner with production teams to understand and improve operational efficiencies.
- Support new product development through cost modeling and scenario analysis.
Compliance & Process Improvement
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX (if applicable), and company policies.
- Identify opportunities to streamline cost accounting processes and improve data integrity.
- Lead or support internal and external audit activities.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 5–8+ years of progressive cost accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing, distribution, or similar environments.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, standard costing, and inventory management.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.).
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Experience with data visualization tools is a plus (Power BI, Tableau).
Compensation: $110,000-140,000 + bonus
