Nonprofit Accountant

Location: St. Paul, MN (Hybrid Schedule)
Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 base annually

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations and Reporting

  • Manage daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll allocations, and general ledger activity
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and program‑level reporting
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and restricted funds
  • Track grant expenditures and ensure compliance with federal, state, and foundation requirements
  • Prepare grant budgets, financial reports, and reimbursement submissions
  • Maintain documentation for restricted and unrestricted funding streams
  • Assist with year‑end audit preparation and serve as a liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit financial best practices
  • Support internal control processes and financial policy compliance
  • Partner with program leaders to support budget understanding and financial decision‑making
  • Assist with annual budget development and forecasting
  • Contribute to process improvement and accounting systems enhancements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–5+ years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred but not required)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
